However, with the goal of someday entering a quilt yourself, you're definitely on the right track. I agree about not seeing many "modern" quilts (except on blogs), and attributed that to living in the Midwest. I'm jumping onboard an on-line modern quilt-along - using solids! - and am looking forward to that experience. Oh, and if you like dots, you should be happy as a clam these days! It's so difficult to find prints that are NOT dots, and that isn't good when you want a variety of design and scale in a quilt.
